Dramatic moment US billionaire’s £38m superyacht SINKS gas tanker after horror crash in The Bahamas


THIS is the dramatic second a US billionaire’s £38m superyacht sank a 160-foot fuel tanker close to the Bahamas.

Retail tycoon JR Ridinger’s yacht, Utopia IV, rammed the tanker, the Tropic Breeze, off the coast of New Windfall Island on Christmas Eve.

Pictures of the crash present the tanker falling in the direction of the ocean flooring and the crew members entering into life boats.

Maritime Administration, which owns the Tropic Breeze, informed the Caribbean Nationwide Weekly: “The catastrophic drive of the collision pierced the strict of the tanker inflicting the tanker to sink to the ocean flooring at an estimated depth of two,000 toes.”

They added that each one “non-persistent supplies”, corresponding to liquefied petroleum fuel, marine fuel, and automotive fuel, “are lighter than water and can evaporate if uncovered to floor air”.

One other superyacht, the Amara, handed the sinking ship and rescued the crew members.

It’s unclear at what velocity the Utopia was touring when it struck the tanker.

“The Port Division has begun a proper investigation into the incident, and the Division of Environmental Well being can be conducting a evaluation of the environmental impression. These actions are at the moment underway,” the Bahamas Ministry of Transport and Housing stated in a press release.


The 207-foot Utopia IV was in-built 2018 on the Italian shipyard Rossinavi and has engines from Rolls Royce to energy it alongside.

It may host 12 sleeping company, with the inside that includes manufacturers corresponding to Hermes and Armani. The proprietor’s quarters even have a jacuzzi and a pool with a glass backside.

Maritime Administration added of their assertion that the tanker was inspected this month “and was discovered by the authorities to be totally compliant with all nationwide and worldwide security and vessel integrity requirements”.

“Because of the depth of the ocean on the location of the sinking, it has been decided that the tanker can’t be safely salvaged,” they stated.

It’s unclear if Mr Ridinger, the 65-year-old CEO of Market America and Store.com, was on the yacht on the time of the crash.

Mr Ridinger and his spouse Loren put their West Chelsea duplex house up on the market in July 2020, which was near the parking house for his or her ship at Chelsea Piers.
